The AW2024 runway show by Marcel Ostertag was the last in a set of four on Wednesday 7th February at Berlin Fashion Week, following catwalk shows by Danny Reinke, Kilian Kerner, and Rebekka Ruétz. Berlin’s Verti Music Hall was the venue for the shows, each show preceded by a short video played on a big screen backdrop. The day was running smoothly – show after show with time in between for photographers to quickly transfer their photos from camera to laptop to cloud, models rehearsing their walks, a light and sound check – then mid-way through the Marcel Ostertag runway show suddenly things went off kilter at Berlin Fashion Week.
After targeting some shows in the big four fashion weeks last year in the SS2024 season, PETA this time chose to invade the catwalk in Berlin. As a model was walking down the catwalk in a lace maxi dress, two women dressed in white walked boldly onto the catwalk holding up signs. They had makeup to give the effect of scars, and their signs read “Wool Kills” and “Wolle Töte”. As they advanced down the catwalk, a security guard approached from behind, catching up with them as they almost reached the press pit. He then guided them off to the side and they were escorted away.
The show continued on – photos below, taken by myself as I was attending.
