For the Paul Smith Fall 2025 Menswear collection, Paul Smith steps behind the lens, drawing inspiration from the personal style of some of the 20th century’s most influential photographers. The collection captures the effortless elegance of figures like David Bailey, Terence Donovan, and William Eggleston, blending classic tailoring with subtle irreverence – think exaggerated proportions, unexpected fabric pairings, and playful pattern clashes.
Photography has long been a passion for Sir Paul Smith, and this season, the designer celebrates its influence on both his life and work. The collection’s deep, inky palette takes cues from the rich, atmospheric hues of Saul Leiter’s color photography, while a relaxed, lived-in approach to tailoring echoes the way photographers naturally wear their clothes – practical, yet undeniably stylish.
A standout motif this season is the ‘Field Flower’ print, a vibrant photorealistic floral that appears across shirts, ties, and jacquard knitwear. This particular image holds deep personal meaning – it was taken by Harold B. Smith, Paul’s father and an avid photographer himself. As the founder of the Beeston Camera Club, Harold’s keen eye for detail and playful approach to imagery clearly influenced his son, and this motif acts as a visual thread tying together past and present. A darker, moodier version of the print also makes its way into statement eveningwear, adding depth to the collection’s narrative.
Fabric innovation plays a key role this season, with traditional tailoring textiles reimagined in surprising ways. Herringbone wool is laundered for a softer texture, while houndstooth and Prince of Wales checks are blown up to exaggerated proportions. Tailoring is subtly deconstructed – one blazer that appears uniform at first glance reveals an understated patchwork construction up close. These details embody Paul Smith’s signature mix of heritage craftsmanship and playful subversion.
Adding another layer to the Paul Smith Fall 2025 Menswear collection is a first look at Paul Smith Loves Barbour – a collaboration that reinterprets Barbour’s iconic outerwear through a uniquely Paul Smith lens. Inspired by British livestock competitions and farm shows, the capsule features waxed cotton coats in unexpected shades, patchwork designs, and a bold Friesian cow motif – a fittingly playful take on country classics.
Unveiled in an intimate presentation at the brand’s Paris headquarters on January 22nd, 2025, the Paul Smith Fall 2025 Menswear collection is a study in contrast – heritage meets innovation, structure meets spontaneity, and tradition is infused with a signature Paul Smith twist.
