For the FETICO Fall 2025 collection, Emi Funayama delivers a collection that is both fiercely nostalgic and forward-thinking, rooted in the provocative power of the female form. Drawing inspiration from pin-up icon Bettie Page and Bunny Yeager’s seminal photo book Queen of Curves, Funayama builds a sensual narrative that honors mid-century glamour while challenging its constraints.
The designer’s deep reverence for 1950s haute couture – think Dior’s New Look and Balenciaga’s architectural silhouettes – manifests in hourglass tailoring, flared hemlines, and coats with sweeping cape collars. But beneath the polish lies subversion: bondage-inspired leather harnesses, belt-laced cardigans, and corseted denim separates underscore themes of restraint, autonomy, and eroticism. The result is a meditation on the complex relationship between femininity, self-expression, and control.
FETICO’s first original leopard print – rooted in both Bettie Page’s legacy and a leopard coat with sentimental value that Funayama purchased at a London flea market during her student days – anchors the collection visually and symbolically. Alongside cherry, rose, and lily motifs rendered in flocked tulle or jacquard, the prints infuse the lineup with playful sensuality. Textural contrasts abound, from organic cotton denim laced tight at the waist to glossy black foil-coated fleece, produced in Kyoto, that mimics patent leather’s gleam with unexpected lightness.
Signature lingerie elements appear throughout: sheer slips, powder pink baby-doll dresses, and vintage-style ribbon details nod to the intimacy of pin-up costume, reimagined for everyday power dressing. Accessories reinforce the theme – think leather gloves, pearl chokers, and cross-strap pumps – while functional updates like a fluorochemical-free iridescent trench show FETICO’s commitment to sustainability.
With her FETICO Fall 2025 collection, Funayama reframes the conversation around the female gaze. It’s a collection steeped in retro glamour and unapologetic sensuality, where every curve, cinch, and flourish is a declaration of self-determined beauty.
