In the show notes provided for the Simone Rocha Fall 2025 collection, a few lines in particular caught my attention:
“School days haze.
Twisted twin sets.
Behind the bike shed.
Desire, distress, headmistress.”
The collection itself masterfully navigates the tension between institutional constraint and youthful rebellion, by juxtaposing the severe silhouettes of academic authority with the unbridled expression found in adolescent escape.
Rocha’s vision materializes through a carefully calibrated balance of opposing elements. Structured tailoring evokes the disciplined aesthetic of the headmistress – commanding leather jackets with asymmetrical zips, precisely cut shorts paired with white socks and loafers – creating a foundation of scholastic formality. This architectural severity is then subverted through layers of vulnerability and rebellion: sheer dresses constrained by leather harnesses, slashed hems suggesting containment breached, and chain belts secured with symbolic padlocks.
The collection’s textile narrative centers on rich, substantial leather and sumptuous fur, materials that simultaneously signal authority and luxury. Fur appears as both traditional stoles and in unexpectedly playful iterations – wrapped around hips, forming unconventional bra tops, adorning lapels of military-inspired coats, and even reimagined as stuffed rabbit plushies carried by models. These whimsical touches create a startling contrast against the collection’s more austere elements.
Dresses in pastel blue adorned with ribbons and bows provide a sense of innocence, contrasting with the black leather looks. For Fall 2025, Simone Rocha delivers a collection that is at times severe and at others feminine and whimsical, crafting a delicate balance between softness and edge, where ethereal romance meets structured intensity.
