For the Markarian Fall 2025 collection, Alexandra O’Neill looked to the regal grandeur of Elizabethan portraiture, weaving its opulence into the brand’s signature romanticism. A striking image of Queen Elizabeth I in deep ruby velvet, adorned with intricate embellishments, set the tone for a collection rich in texture and historical references.
The influence of Nicholas Hilliard’s portraits – particularly one where the queen wears a black gown with gold and white accents – appears in delicate glass beadwork, while dotted jacquards, derived from the jeweled detailing in the paintings, lend a modern lightness. Classic Elizabethan elements are reimagined through a contemporary lens, softened into fluid, evening-ready separates.
This season, O’Neill balances regal sophistication with effortless wearability, proving that history’s most extravagant details still have a place in modern wardrobes.
