For the Oude Waag Spring 2025 collection, titled The Paramount Soul and shown earlier this month at Shanghai Fashion Week, Jingwei Yin took inspiration from attending a religious funeral and the sense of spirituality surrounding it. With a procession of models in sombre colours – black, grey, dark mauve and oxblood – the Spring 2025 collection plays with different fabric weights, fluid draping, and modern construction.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, Jingwei Yin founded Oude Waag in 2017. Based in Shanghai, the brand derives its name from the 17th-century weigh house in Amsterdam which was used for weighing goods to establish their value – “Oude” meaning old, “Waag” meaning weight.
Jingwei Yin describes Oude Waag as “like keeping a diary”, based on the human experience and punctuated by moments of emotion and intimacy.
