Stem Spring 2026 – titled Over and Under and Over and Under and Over and Under – turns the humble basket into both muse and metaphor. Founder Sarah Brunnhuber reflects on the rhythmic motion of weaving as an antidote to an industry caught in overproduction and overstimulation. The result is a collection that champions making less, but making deeply.
Working with Danish master basket weavers, Stem explores the parallels between textile and basketry, translating structure into garments shaped by its zero-waste weaving methodology. Signature smocks return, alongside Stenim – the brand’s answer to denim – and patchwork showpieces built from off-cuts, culminating in the painstaking 100-Hour Dress.
A bio-dyed purple, created in collaboration with Octarine Bio’s fermentation process, joins black, white, and denim in the palette.
Presented as a participatory willow-weaving workshop rather than a runway, the show invites guests to perform the foundational motion of weaving – over and under – underscoring Stem’s vision of clothing as both craft and system.
