I painted my nails today and I decided to go for yellow, but I’m not keen on just yellow so I got a bit fancy with some nail art and added orange spots with brown dots. It kinda looked like the colours on a giraffe so I guess they’re giraffe spots?
I started by applying two coats of Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish #057 Just Buy Me. Next I used a thick pointing tool to place dots using Essie Nail Polish #840 Movin’ & Groovin’. Once those were dry I used a thin pointing tool to add smaller dots using Dior Vernis #970 Nuit 1947.
Back in the 90s when I was a teenager and internet shopping didn’t exist yet (and Miners nail varnish cost £1 a piece) I used to straighten out a paper clip or use a toothpick – you can get creative to find something that works rather than spending money on tools.
If you’d like to try nails like these I’ve recommended some yellow, orange and brown nail varnish below, along with some pointing tools, although if you have some cuticle sticks with a pointed end, those will work too.
Don’t forget to let the varnish dry really well between layers – I always leave an hour, then I wait until the next day to apply top coat. It’s good to reapply top coat every couple of days to make sure everything stays put after all the effort!
And if you’re looking to add to your nail varnish collection, Boots have a 20% off selected Essie offer at the moment, and they’re also giving a free gift when you buy two selected Essie items.
It would be fun to try this sort of design with other colour combinations too – maybe green and pink on white, or using three shades of the same colour. Below are two combinations I really want to try next.
