The Lovechild 1979 Spring 2025 runway show took place under the intense August sun at Copenhagen Fashion Week, set against the stately backdrop of Amalienborg, the Royal Family’s residence. The octagonal courtyard with its imposing statue of Frederik V made for the perfect street style backdrop. The King’s guard patrols the palace grounds, and – between you and me – I got told off for setting down my bag a bit too close to one of the building’s doors while taking out my camera.
After speaking with PR, I found a spot facing the runway and – baking in the heat – watched as guests lined up near the fountain. My shoulders became redder and redder since I’d forgotten to apply sunblock that morning, but I made the best of the situation by chatting with the other photographers until the show started. I spotted a familiar face and immediately felt more at ease – Caroline Kynast, a photographer I’d met at Berlin Fashion Week.
I gained a few compliments for my over-the-knee knitted sneakers but I was very much regretting wearing them as the sun went from hot to scorching. I sat cross-legged on the ground, watching guests take their seats. The music was a repetitive ‘brum-brum-brum’ as members of the PR team showed attendees to their seats, asked some people to scooch up a bit to make space, and disappointed others by relegating them to a standing spot.
Eventually the last few guests were in, there was a hush as the background music faded away, and a new song began: the show was about to start. I checked my camera settings one final time, then concentrated as a beautiful blend of tailoring, fluid fabrics, and openwork knitwear came down the runway. The Lovechild 1979 Spring 2025 collection has begun.
