With the Fall 2024 edition of Berlin Fashion Week fast approaching, I wanted to take a look back at some of the Spring 2024 shows. The first show I attended was that of Ukrainian brand Bobkova.

The show took place in the beautiful gardens of the Kronprinzenpalais – a perfect backdrop for this spring/summer collection inspired by founder Kristina Bobkova’s love of gardening.

From floral prints to fabric flower embellishments on jewellery and sunglasses, the theme was clear, but the femininity of the flowers was balanced by masculine suits with broad shoulders, and tailored jackets and trousers.

The flower that Bobkova put centre stage was the mallow, a Ukrainian symbol of protection. Flowing, bias-cut dresses came in both knitwear and silk, some with a print designed by Ukrainian artist Polina Moroz.

The colour palette also reflected the mallow: pastel colours and muted tones contrasted with brighter greens and yellows reminiscent of the Ukrainian landscape. Porcelain earrings and necklaces were handmade by Ukrainian ceramic artist Jeva Smith.

The garments are produced with sustainability in mind and with the aim of minimising waste. Textile remnants are processed into ribbons, which are then turned into textiles that are made into garments or bags. The resulting fabric reminded me of the woven rugs my grandmother used to make from scraps of fabric. Elsewhere in the collection, unfinished details give the garments a raw, handmade feel.

Bobkova’s AW2024 show will take place on 6 February 2024 during the next edition of Berlin Fashion Week and I’m excited to see what comes next. Here are a few more photos from the show. All photos in this article were taken by myself at the show in July 2023.
