Unvain Spring 2027 by Robert Friedrichs – titled SKINS – explores clothing as a form of protection or exposure: a second skin that can both reveal and conceal the person beneath, not just their body but their mind too. Like the TV series Skins, where each episode centres on one person and their own experience, every look for Spring 2027 began not with a moodboard or colour story but with a sentence. Guests at the show received a booklet listing all the sentences, look by look.
One of the key fabrics is lace; this is used alongside recycled and reclaimed materials: deadstock leather, upcycled fur and feathers. Sheer fabrics contrast with heavier ones, desaturated colours with brights, silhouettes that are sometimes a comforting hug and sometimes intimidating armour.
A fragrance collaboration between Unvain and Ryoko – with contrasting notes of bright blood orange leaves and dark vetiver – filled the venue. The scent installation is an integral layer of the experience, designed to draw the audience deeper into the world of SKINS.
