The Mame Kurogouchi Fall 2026 collection works from a single conceptual thread—the visual experience of mountain landscapes seen through mist, rain, and glass—translating this into technically considered textile development.
The collection’s most commercially significant pieces sit at the intersection of outerwear and craft. Hooded coats and field jackets are finished with a hand-printing technique in which wildflower motifs are cut from washi paper and applied directly to fabric—a process that gives active, technical pieces an artisanal quality without sacrificing structure. Sheer anoraks and capes layer over the collection’s core knits and dresses, functioning as both outerwear and a transparent second skin. Knits are worked in variegated yarns—one of the more directional fabrications for the season—giving pieces a tonal depth that reads differently across colorways.
“The key palette is a green of profound depth […] a quiet longing for the emerald green once used in Japanese glass…”
— Press Release
Silhouettes lean long and unbothered: floor-length coats analogous to belted bath robes with a relaxed wrap construction, and fluid skirts and dresses shaped by asymmetric draping. The approach shares DNA with the broader lingerie-influence trend—sheerness, lace, mesh—but grounds it in heavier fabrications and a more covered-up sensibility, making the pieces considerably more wearable for a wider retail context.
The palette is tightly edited: predominantly off-white, ivory, and black, anchored by a deep emerald green that appears across knits, outerwear, and sheer fabrications and gives the collection its strongest commercial colour story.
The runway also marks the debut of a leather accessories collaboration with Tsuchiya Kaban, a Tokyo-based house known for precision leatherwork. The resulting pieces—a cocoon-shaped bucket bag, a structured leather vest, and small leather goods—have a clean, functional design sensibility that bring a grounded structure to the more ethereal mood of the clothing.
