The Brandon Maxwell Resort 2026 collection walks the line between softness and strength, intimacy and structure. Delicate slip dresses and semi-sheer mesh pieces evoke classic lingerie forms; lightweight knitwear adds ease – including a slouchy long-sleeved top that hangs just-so. It’s paired with a maxi skirt complete with train, underscoring the contrasts at play in the collection. Mesh – which is actually openwork knit – gives a light and airy feel, tempering the large presence of denim and leather presented by Maxwell this season.
These heavier materials are used to sculpt strong outerwear shapes – many featuring oversized epaulettes that slip deliberately off the shoulders onto the arms, enhancing the oversized, drop shoulder effect. A standout jacket in cowhide brings a sense of Americana cool with its tactile surface and rugged finish. Handkerchief-hem skirts are layered over trousers, the structural stiffness of denim and leather enhancing the angular cut and giving the hemline maximum volume and shape.
This rigidity is softened with the use of innovative drawstring waists. Oversized leather jackets, along with a shirt are pulled in at the waist with utilitarian cords, instantly creating volume, cinch, and flow. A pair of trousers also features this innovative drawstring closure.
There are some vintage references – a 1980s-style wrap jacket and trouser set, a peplum-hem top, and a knee-length coat reminiscent of 1950s balamacaan styles – but each is refreshed and reworked for now.
Brandon Maxwell Resort 2026 is romantic yet utilitarian, a thoughtful balance of precision and softness – designed for women who live in between.
