The Australian Fashion Week 2026 schedule will see designers in Sydney present their Resort 2027 and Spring 2027 collections. There are 25 designers on the schedule alongside two group shows – New Generation and The Frontier – and a graduate show by the Fashion Design Studio.

This edition marks the event’s 30th anniversary. Australian Fashion Week was originally the brainchild of Simon Lock, a PR consultant and magazine reporter, though that first edition in 1996 received a mixed reception from international press – the May timing didn’t align with the big four fashion weeks, despite attracting international buyers and showcasing both ready-to-wear and swimwear. Lock sold the event to IMG in 2005 and worked with them until 2010. Twenty years later, IMG exited and the Australian Fashion Council stepped in, managing the event for the first time in 2025.

Notable moments across three decades include the introduction of two Indigenous Australian showcases in 2021, which brought 13 First Nations designers to the industry – among them Maara Collective, Aarli, and Ngali, the latter of which returns on this year’s schedule. Linda Evangelista walked for Alex Perry in 1997, Jade Jagger modelled for Charlie Brown in 2005, and performances over the years have included Dita Von Teese and Macy Gray.

The long-standing criticism that Australian Fashion Week sits out of sync with the global calendar has largely been addressed by pivoting toward Resort collections – a category that, while produced by brands since the 1920s, became a commercial powerhouse in the early 2000s as luxury houses invested heavily in Resort and Pre-Fall, with both now accounting for a significant share of annual sales.
