Ludovic de Saint Sernin Fall 2026 – the designer’s eighteenth collection – shows that de Saint Sernin has always understood the body as his primary material; in Collection dix-huit that understanding feels both deepened and distilled. Returning to the instincts that built his reputation, the body is architecture, sensuality is structure, and restraint is a form of radicalism.
The palette is pared down to black, white, and red; the mood is darker, more severe. The collection is a return to instinct, a stripping back; a rejection of excess and spectacle.
The collection’s most compelling moments arrive when de Saint Sernin allows himself to be genuinely experimental. The fringing this season is especially notable: wider, textured, changing colour as it falls; it is used not just for adornment but also for construction. A maxi dress in horizontal red fringing is the collection’s standout piece: the way the fringe is laid horizontally, building mass and movement simultaneously before falling naturally into a curved, uneven hem, is quietly inventive. Also striking is a one-shoulder white dress where a diagonal panel of sheer fabric bisects the skirt – a deceptively complex technical solution that makes you wonder, in the best possible way, how it holds together at all.
The signatures that have come to define the house – halterneck constructions threading through both womenswear and menswear, the corseting detail that has become something of a through-line – are present throughout the collection.
A new bag joins the accessories lineup: the Harness Bag is a baguette suspended from body-harness straps, the house’s sensual codes translated into hardware. Materials used include leather, velvet, and suede; hand-cut and assembled metal mesh contrasts with delicate Japanese lace.
The genuine flashes of invention – the red fringed dress above all – are what keep the Ludovic de Saint Sernin Fall 2026 collection compelling. Enough to make you curious, and perhaps a little impatient, about where that instinct might lead de Saint Sernin next.
