Textured knitwear can be of so many kinds – different knit stitches can give texture, such as cable stitches, popcorn/bobble stitch or wide ribs (see Deveaux Pre-Fall 2023 below).

This Alexander McQueen AW2023 cable knit dress is one of my favourite pieces from the whole collection. It’s a lovely mix of texture and cut-outs and I can’t imagine how much work, including the trial and error of getting it just right, went into it.
Other ways of adding texture are by mixing and matching stitches, using yarns of different weights, or using textured yarns such as bouclé. Another method is adding an overlay of wool to create a design on the garment, like on this DSquared2 AW2023 jumper.
I’ve done this myself with a needle and thread and it gives a really nice effect although it’s pretty time consuming, but knitting anything by hand takes a while!
