Meanswhile was established in 2014 by Japanese designer Naohiro Fujisaki, with a focus on urban and outdoor styles perfect if you’d like to try out the gorpcore trend, or if you’re into techwear.
Fujisaki presented his SS2024 collection at Tokyo Fashion Week on September 1st 2023, with the collection featuring what the brand has come to be known for – technical wear in a palette of khaki, grey, brown, and other muted colours. Cargo pockets featured on waistcoats, shorts, and jackets, and a plastic-like fabric was used to make leg warmers attached just below the knee.
Blanket wraps reminded me a little of Craig Green‘s SS2023 collection, although Green’s came in bright colours.
Distorted photographic prints were created in collaboration with Finnish photographer Ola Kolehmainen who uses buildings and interiors to create abstract compositions.
Fujisaki also worked with Converse earlier this year to reimagine their 1985 Odessa running shoe. Launched on July 14th, the collaboration reworked the shoe featuring a suede upper and a water-resistant heel. It was released in two colourways – white and light grey, on both Converse’s Japan site and Meanswhile’s website.
