Walter Van Beirendonck is one of my absolute favourite designers, and I initially posted a couple of images on Instagram related to this show back in January. I was running through my folders and found some more images I had prepared back then but that I never shared because I had decided that I didn’t like them enough. I decided to share them now and I’ve combined all the images into this one post.
I was lucky enough to see the fang shoes (or at least that’s what I call them) in person when I was in London for Fashion Week earlier this year, but they weren’t available in my size so I guess I’ll have to wait a bit longer to fulfill my dream of owning something created by Walter Van Beirendonck. I really wanted those shoes!
If you’re not familiar with Walter Van Beirendonck, he is one of the Antwerp Six, a group of Belgian fashion designers who graduated from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts between 1980 and 1981. The other five members are Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee. Walter Van Beirendonck is currently head of the Fashion Department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
